CoinShares founder Meltem Demirors and Simplex CEO Nimrod Lehavi discuss how the Middle East, a small cryptocurrency market relative to the rest of the world, wields such a big influence on crypto adoption and innovation.

“Bitcoin promises separation of money and state,” Demirors said. “People here happen to be born in a regime of sanctions.” In many emerging markets, she says people may be preconditioned to experiment with novel financial tools because they are already accustomed to dealing with currency fluctuations and trading foreign currencies.
